A New Application of Social Impact in Social Media for Overcoming Fake News in Health

Abstract

Purpose: The current study examines the prevalence of fake news over social media and evaluates the application of social impact in social media (SISM) methodology for minimising health-related fake news from social media platforms.

Method: Mixed methodology has been undertaken for this study, so that philosophical approaches to health and fake news can be explored, while impact of social media usage can be numerically validated. Data has been collected from primary sources, which include social media users and public health experts. This makes the method of data collection primary, with added advantage of 

For data analysis, data was analysed using the structured theme-based approach of thematic analysis while, for analysing surveys, statistical analysis in light of descriptive and frequency analysis were performed.

Findings: The government and social media platforms lacks collaboration in develop a system which could eliminate the spread of fake news and search engines in such a way that shows accurate and verified results to users so that fake news can be prevented.
